ORDERS FOR NEW SINGER’S PRAYER BOOK APPROACH 15,000 PRIOR TO PUBLICATION

Although the new Authorised Daily Prayer Book of the United Hebrew Congregations, popularly known as the Singer’s Prayer Book, has not yet been officially published, orders from communities throughout the UK have reached almost 15,000 – far surpassing the predicted initial sales.

Four years in development, the new prayer book includes an extensive translation and commentary from the Chief Rabbi. It was produced after considerable consultation across the US communities – with particular emphasis on its younger members. The Siddur was carefully prepared to reflect the needs of the community today.

Due to demand from virtually every community across the country, the initial order for 5,000 copies, which the US made with publishers Collins, has had to be revised upwards everyday for the past two weeks.

Whilst orders for the Standard edition have been remarkable, those for the enlarged Readers Edition, the leather bound Presentation edition and the Pocket edition have been equally strong.

Commenting on the sales, the Chairman of the Singer’s Prayerbook Committee, Elkan Levy, said, “This goes to prove that our years of research and the exciting prospect of the Chief Rabbi’s new translations and commentaries, have produced results which we simply could not have predicted. Its instructions, explanation and notes, together with the new translation, truly make this a Siddur for the next generation.”
The Siddur will be available for the general public to purchase through Jewish bookshops and elsewhere in early December.
