US Launch Two New Minyanim

US LAUNCH TWO NEW MINYANIM

The United Synagogue is pleased to announce the launch of two new minyanim in North West London, the first located at Frances and Dick James Court, the Jewish Blind & Disabled building in Mill Hill East, and the second at the LJCC Ivy House, close to Golders Hill Park.

The US’ Community Development Group responded to a need expressed by members of these two communities for the provision of a more accessible and convenient location for Shabbat services, both for those who find walking to the larger synagogues on Shabbat difficult as well as for those who could attend more regularly if the location were closer to home. The US is working with both individual members of the communities and the local synagogues to provide these additional intimate and informal minyanim which will enhance the current provision for a vibrant Jewish life in these areas.

The first Shabbat evening service held in Mill Hill East last week was considered an overwhelming success by the 19 people who attended, including Rabbi Schohet of Mill Hill Synagogue.

Susan Moss, Mill Hill’s Board member responsible for new members, commented: “The Mill Hill East community has grown rapidly over the last few years and we are pleased that the US reacted so quickly to our requests for more local Shabbat services. Our first Shabbat together was a very positive and warm experience and I hope that many more local residents will join us in the future for regular weekly services.”

The US will be hosting a community consultation evening at Ivy House on 13th June 7.30 – 9.00pm to discuss the new informal minyan at this location. Those interested in this initiative should register at: ivyhouseminyan@unitedsynagogue.co.uk

David Glass, local resident & Golders Green member said, "The minyan at Ivy House will provide a terrific opportunity for those US members who, like my wife and I, live in this area and are keen to daven close to our homes. We are grateful for the US’ support in making this initiative become a reality, especially in the beautiful surroundings of Ivy House.”
