Death is possibly the most traumatic experience we ever have to encounter, particularly for those closest who are left behind and it is the rites and rituals that often help see them through this difficult time. It is estimated that almost all funerals carried out in Britain are based on religion even though it is estimated that only 20% of those deceased were actively involved in any religious faith. Within the United Synagogue, 88% of burials in 2000 were for members, the remaining 12% having had no affiliation to any Synagogue.
